The Old Malthouse, Langton Matravers, Swanage, Dorset, BH19 3HB

The Old Malthouse is located on the Jurassic Coast, making it an ideal base for the study of physical Geography and Geology. Indeed, it organises practical modules for pupils to investigate coastal processes and geological formations. Typically, budding scientists can see how the local shales hold oil and attempt to ignite the oil in its purest form.

OMH1

The particular area of Dorset in which the centre is based is home to a whole cross section of ecosystems from heath land and coastline to woodland and meadows. The possibilities for exploring natural sciences are endless.

We run a selection of courses on topics such as Science, Geography, Geology and outdoor pursuits. However, with so many wonderful sites and activities on our doorstep we are happy to tailor make a programme to include all the activities you desire. Whether you’re after a botany filled nature week or a Geology course packed full of rock hunting. We can also offer a range of outdoor pursuits from orienteering and abseiling to high ropes and coasteers along the infamous Jurassic Coast. The Tank Museum and Monkey World are only a few miles away and you could even have a go at carving some of the local Purbeck limestone at Burngate Stone Carving Centre, only a mile up the road. Please email us to explore all the possibilities to maximise your time with us.

Whether schools or groups want to use the Old Malthouse for Geography, Geology, Biology or as a base for outdoor pursuits, the emphasis is on practical activity.
